I Used To Suck At Making Decisions

How I Overcame It.

When I tell you I used to be terrible at making decisions, I am not kidding.

Ever since I was a kid I had this problem, staring at candy bars.

As an adult, I could stand at the gas station looking for an energy drink for 20 minutes before I finally decided on one.

If I decided. Sometimes I would just leave without anything.

Not kidding.

Eventually, I had this idea, if I can’t even make a decision over a couple bucks, how am I going to make big financial decisions?

How am I going to be able to take care of my family? Confidently make split-second decisions if needed?

I wanted to be successful, how would I make a decision over $1 million if $1 had me tripping?

Oh yeah, I would freeze and be a loser.

So I decided to consciously change this. It took time but I got there.

Here’s what I did. It’s not revolutionary but it worked.

I practiced making decisions.

Anytime I needed to make a decision, if I knew I would beforehand I told myself I would just pick something and not think about it. Buying something at the gas station I would walk up and the time I had to decide was how long it took to walk up open the door and grab. Whatever I grabbed that’s what I got.

I started to make more decisive decisions as well. Even just in my driving, sometimes I would second guess the turn I would make and the route I would take even though it really didn’t matter. I worked on this.

I decided I would make decisions unapologetically, make a decision, and stick to it.

Over time I realized something, a HUGE problem I had.

My issue with decisions was an issue with myself.

I didn’t trust myself.

I didn’t trust myself to make the right decision, to pick the correct thing. What if I chose wrong? I didn’t trust myself to pick up the pieces.

Once I realized this, and I tell you now, I was able to work on that as well. I worked on becoming someone I could trust. As I made more decisions, I noticed that I felt more confident overall, I was in fact able to deal with the consequences of my decisions no matter what it was.

You can do this too.

This helped me with my confidence and with my relationships because I can now make a quick decision concisely, and confidently, without second guessing myself. I live without apology.

YOU CAN DO THIS TOO. WORK FOR WHAT YOU WANT.

WARNING. ONLY FOR MOTIVATED PEOPLE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES.
