Your Mind Is A Temple.
It should be a sancuary of peace...
It is common knowledge that we should take care of our bodies. At least I think it is, all too often I find that common sense is not very common.
Putting that aside, most people know that it is good to take care of our bodies, pay attention to our health, and treat ourselves with respect.
If you didn’t know that, here is your wake up call. Treat yourself with respect.
Our bodies are often what we see people talk about improving.
“Be careful what you eat”
“Exercise”
“Go for a run”
“Don’t eat those seed oils!”
“Go to the gym”
That’s all fine and good, and I’m on board with fitness, it is a huge part of my life.
However, what I don’t hear about often is treating your mind with respect. I think of my mind as a temple.
It is MY HOLY PLACE.
Everything in life is about our mindset and the frames of mind that we set up that we can use to our advantage. This is one of those frames.
Let’s dive into this, what is a temple?
A temple historically is a holy place of worship. It is a place where no unworthy or unclean thing can even enter. If someone unworthy was found somehow inside they would be taken out as quickly as they were noticed. It is a place of purity and spiritual connection, which is why it is so necessary for only worthy individuals to dwell there. Inside the temple is filled with precious and sacred items that are worth protecting. It is pure, clean, and immaculate.
Can you see the parallel?
Your mind is your temple.
This is where your consciousness dwells. Our world is filled with evil and negativity at every turn. If you are not diligent, it will find its way in.
You must allow no unclean thing to enter your mind, this is not in a religious sense, I am talking about everything from allowing negative people to affect your mind and emotions, to the TV and movies you choose to watch.
What are your standards? Do you watch the news and allow it to bring you down? Or TV shows that make you feel less? Maybe you watch porn which is good for nobody.
These are all things that you have a choice to allow into your mind from the outside.
From the inside, I think of negative and limiting thoughts as weeds, unworthy to grow in the garden and temple of my mind. As soon as you notice them you do not dwell on them, you pull them up and cast them out, they have no place disrupting the temple in which you reside.
Only things that are worthy to enter may stay.
Negativity, anxiety, and depression, all stem from not being able to control our thoughts. It feels oddly satisfying to dwell on the negativity and feel that sense of darkness around us, allowing those thoughts to circle around, going deeper and deeper, spiraling out of control.
Stop it.
Choose now that those types of thoughts have no place inside of you.
Protect your mind, it is a sacred place for you to retreat to.
If you cannot feel safe inside of your own mind then we have work to do.
I can sit alone for hours inside of my own mind, left with my own thoughts. It is a place of peace and sanctuary that I can come to anytime, anywhere I need.
My mind is a temple for my thoughts, and yours can be too.
