You Live At Your Lowest Standard.

What is a standard really?

What is a standard?

We hear a lot of talk about having standards for ourselves and setting boundaries. In my experience, I usually see it regarding social settings. Standards in relationships and how you allow people to treat you.

However, the reality is that everything we do is a standard we have set for ourselves.

From relationships to fitness to finances to hygiene.

Everything is a standard.

How often you shower and brush your teeth? A standard for yourself.

How much money do you have in your bank account? A standard.

Have you ever seen the studies of people that win the lottery? They almost always end up broke and in massive debt. Their standard of money stays the same. If your standard is broke, any extra money you get will be spent to bring you down to your lowest standard.

When people get tax returns, here in the US, that’s the best time to sell a car. Everybody wants to spend it, not save it even though they were doing just fine without that money to begin with.

How about standards of habits? Or of work?

You will fall to your lowest standard.

Let me get a little weird here but just bear with me. I’m going to bet that one standard we all have is after you go to the bathroom you clean up after yourself… I hope lol

No matter how you feel right? You could be sick and feeling like you are dying, but you’re going to do it anyway. Right?

THAT is a standard.

I have made THOUSANDS of sales calls.

When I was doing that I had a number for the day that I would hit, that was my standard. I would be on the phone for 4-6 hours a day to hit that standard.

You have a workout you need to do but it’s 11 PM and you didn’t get to it? Okay, is it your standard to train on the days you say that you will? Or is it okay for you to skip?

You set an alarm for 5 AM. What is your standard? Is it hitting the snooze button? Or is it getting up when you said you would?

These are standards. Which means what?

You must raise your standard and anything less than that is UNACCEPTABLE.

This is all a mental game.

You decide. Then act on it. If you fall short, you know your standard is lower than you desire it to be. Work harder.

Now that you know, you will begin to see what your true standards are.

You will notice your bank account stays around the same even when you make more money, it will seem to magically disappear.

How you treat your spouse and how you are treated is a standard.

How you dress.

How you speak.

Everything.

Once you recognize them, you can change them.
