A Lesson In Confidence From A Fighter

What I learned from him...

I remember the first time I went to an MMA gym when I was a teenager.

I think I was 16 at the time.

After the class, I got to talking with the instructor.

Turns out he was a fighter as well as a bouncer at a club.

And I will never forget something he told me.

We were talking about people getting out of line, you know the type. The guys that get wasted and like to cause problems. The guys that have something to prove.

He told me though that because he was so confident in himself and his ability to fight he didn't have anything to prove.

Not to himself because he knew his abilities, and certainly not to anyone else. In fact, he would feel bad if he had to fight Joe at the club because he didn’t want to cripple people for life. True story.

Here is what I will always remember.

He said, "You can say whatever you want to me, as long as you are walking THAT WAY."
*pointing away from us

This has always stuck with me.

Do I have an ego? Yes. I think it is necessary for greatness. But, do I feel the need to protect my ego? No. I do not care. You cannot hurt my ego.

You cannot offend me because I do not allow it.

I feel no need to put myself in danger simply to prove something to someone that I don’t know, don’t care about, think is a loser, and will never see again. I know who I am and as long as you’re walking the other way, say whatever you want.

I have always been this way without realizing it as well. The only times I ever came even close to getting in fights back when I was in school was to protect my friends or others who couldn’t defend themselves.

People could pick on me, say what they wanted, or whatever. As a 14 year old kid, yes it hurt, but I knew I would be okay, I knew I could handle it. But mess with my friends? You’re done.

When you are absolutely confident in yourself.
You don't have to prove anything to anyone but yourself.

Getting in a fight at a club is stupid and juvenile.
You are a child.

Get more confidence.

Gain more abilities.

Your temperament will keep you safer and more respected by people who actually matter.

So what is the point of this story?

You need to become that person.

You need to become someone who cannot be touched by the words of a stranger. Build yourself into the person that you are proud of by taking action to create and sculpt yourself.

WARNING. ONLY FOR MOTIVATED PEOPLE WILLING TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES.

If this is something that you want. If you want to have this level of confidence we just talked about, change your beliefs, your life, and become the person you must be in order to have everything that you desire, and take action unapologetically and relentlessly.
